Denmark Fulbright Program 2027: US–Denmark Study Grants

The Denmark Fulbright Program provides graduate study and research grants for the 2027/28 academic year. One route supports US citizens going to Denmark, while another supports Danish citizens going to the United States. Funding and application conditions differ between these directions of exchange.

The US route closes on 6 October 2026 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time, making it urgent. Danish applicants have until 17 February 2027 at noon CET. Check the correct citizenship route before arranging host admission and financing.

Denmark Fulbright Program Benefits

US grantees receive DKK 125,000 for their Danish academic year. Eligible guest students do not pay Danish tuition during the grant, while full-degree students must budget for tuition.

Danish grants support four to six months or eight to ten months, depending on the award. Full-degree funding covers the first year, and additional financing may be necessary.

Eligibility

The Denmark-bound route requires US citizenship and graduate-level activity. US–Danish dual citizens are excluded, and a suitable Danish host affiliation is required.

The US-bound route requires Danish citizenship and excludes US dual citizenship and green-card holders. It does not fund undergraduate study, LL.M., MBA, internships, summer schools or conferences.

Requirements and Documents

US academic applicants prepare a grant-purpose statement, short answers, transcripts, three recommendations and Denmark’s required affiliation evidence. Register recommenders in the national application system.

Danish applicants should follow the current Danish-route IIE checklist. Prepare the requested study and financial materials and retain evidence of the separate host-university application.

How to Apply

US students applying through an institution should contact their Fulbright adviser because campus deadlines can be earlier. Other eligible US applicants use the national online route and select Denmark.

Danish applicants use the application link on Fulbright Denmark’s Danish-student page. Complete grant and host-admission processes separately, following the conditions for the chosen degree or research stay.

Application Deadline

The national US competition closes on 6 October 2026 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. This urgent deadline applies to US applicants seeking the Danish award.

The Danish-student competition closes on 17 February 2027 at 12:00 noon CET. Applicants using a US institution must also meet any earlier campus deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions

The two routes have separate eligibility and budgeting conditions. Select your route before interpreting the available grant.

These distinctions affect university admission and the amount of additional funding you may need.

Can every nationality apply?

No. These routes are for US citizens going to Denmark and Danish citizens going to the US. Other nationalities should consult their own Fulbright country programme.

Is full-degree tuition automatically covered?

No. The US-to-Denmark route requires full-degree students to pay tuition. Danish grants may also require additional financing.

Is host admission separate?

Yes. Fulbright selection does not replace the host institution’s admission or affiliation process.

Conclusion

The Denmark Fulbright Program supports a defined period of graduate study or research between the two countries. Choose the correct route and budget around its actual grant and tuition conditions.

US applicants should prioritise the October deadline and earlier campus requirements. Danish applicants should prepare for February while arranging host admission and any additional funding.
